Since 2002, the Off-Broadway Players community theatre company has entertained an array of audiences throughout western Newfoundland and the rest of the province.
The group was formed in December 2002 by Troy Turner and a group of friends, and elected its first executive a month later. The mandate of the of the company was simple: fill a void in non-profit, volunteer, community theatre, left by the CornerBrook Playmakers, when the group folded in 1985.
The Off-Broadway Players, since its inception, have allowed its members free reign on the direction of the group, encouraging new works and an active membership in each production.
On the provincial level, the group has garnered several awards at the provincial drama festivals in the past, despite being a relatively newcomer to the society. These include best production, the coveted audience appreciation award, best director, best male and female actor and several technical and design awards.
